Since 1986, the Houston Bar Association has raised over $1 Million for The Center for Pursuit. Please join us in continuing to support this worthwhile cause by participating in the 8K Race, the Children's Run or the 1-Mile Family Walk.

  • 8K Wheelchair Division 7:50 a.m.
  • 8K Run 8:00 a.m.*
  • 1-Mile Family Walk 8:30 a.m.

8K Finisher Medals awarded to all 8K finishers. All race registrants receive t-shirts with entry.

*The 8K course is certified and the 8K race is sanctioned by USATF. The 8K Run is an official Spring Series Race of the Houston Area Road Runners Association (HARRA)

Weather Policy

The Fun Run will take place rain or shine, unless conditions are too severe to conduct the event. That call will not be made until late Friday, or early Saturday morning. We will post any pertinent updates to our website, if possible, and social media (Facebook, etc.). We will also email participants who supplied an email address at registration. If we cancel, there will not be a makeup date. Thank you for your support, and understanding.

Attention Law Week Fun Run sponsors and participants. We challenge you to participate in some friendly interorganizational competition to help increase registration and support for the Fun Run and to promote the great work of The Center for Pursuit! The Fun Run Registration Challenge is open to all law firms, corporations, law schools, and other participating organizations. Family, friends, and staff welcome.

Organizations will be awarded points as follows:

    1 registered runner = 1 point
  • R
    1 adopted resident walker = 5 points
  • R
    1 law firm/legal department or law student team = 10 points (Teams registered as part of an organization’s Gold sponsorship will also count!)
  • R
    Social Media Promotion = 3 points per post on any individual social media platform (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Reddit with the HBA, Law Week Fun Run, and The Center for Pursuit tagged - see handles below) helping promote the Fun Run and/or raising awareness about The Center for Pursuit

    1 committed volunteer for Race Day = 5 points (Volunteers sign up at https://tinyurl.com/hbarunvolunteers2020)

The Center for Pursuit, a private, non-profit corporation, is a United Way agency dedicated to offering people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to reach their full potential and to contribute to their community. One hundred percent of your entry fee for the John J. Eikenburg Law Week Fun Run is contributed directly to The Center for Pursuit and helps support a variety of programs designed to provide education, job training, socialization, community living, and health care for people with intellectual disabilities.

The Center for Pursuit Mission Statement

The Center for Pursuit promotes the pursuit of choice, growth, and personal independence for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

For more than six decades, The Center for Pursuit has empowered individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to live meaningful, dignified lives filled with opportunity. Through innovative programs and services in areas like employment training, community living, and day habilitation, The Center for Pursuit helps their clients to develop the skills and tools necessary to grow as individuals and participate fully in their community. Always growing and changing, The Center for Pursuit currently serves over 450 adults with I/DD in the Houston area. The support provided is tailored to the varied needs of the people and families they serve. Each day, in each program, there are breakthroughs, tender moments, and everyday victories that affirm The Center for Pursuit's steadfast commitment to their mission and the humanity within us all.

Individual: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place M/F in the following age groups:

14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+; overall M/F (Open, Masters 40-49, Veterans 50+); 8K Wheelchair: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place M/F;

Team: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the following categories:

Men's Open; Women's Open; Coed; Masters (40 years and older) Men's, Women's, and Coed; Law School Team Awards

Traveling Law School Trophy: 1st Place All-Student 8K Team from the same law school.

Traveling President’s Trophy: 1st Place Law Firm 8k Team.

Teams can include clients and support staff as long as one person is from the named firm.

No duplication of awards (1-Mile Family Walk is noncompetitive)

All 1K kids run participants receive finishing trophy.
